You may feel like you’ve “moved on” from certain experiences, yet they continue to show up in your thoughts, emotions, or reactions. These experiences can influence how you feel about yourself, your relationships, and your ability to feel calm or in control.
EMDR therapy is designed to help your mind and body process these experiences so they no longer feel overwhelming or stuck.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an accelerated psychotherapy approach, developed by Francine Shapiro in 1987 to deal with the effects of trauma. EMDR has since evolved into an effective intervention for other conditions as well, such as anxiety, panic disorders, phobias, depression, guilt, anger, and grief.
It can be used to help clients process through a single-event trauma (i.e., car accident, natural disaster, sudden loss), or it can be employed to address the accumulative effects of other traumatic experiences.
Experiences that continue to feel distressing or unresolved.
Ongoing worry, tension, or feeling constantly on edge.
Processing loss and unresolved emotional pain.
During an EMDR session, gentle techniques such as guided eye movements, alternating sounds, or light tapping are used to help your brain process experiences more effectively.
This process supports communication between different parts of the brain, allowing distressing memories to become less intense and less emotionally charged. You will still remember the experience, but it may begin to feel more distant, manageable, and less overwhelming.
We begin by identifying the areas you would like to work on and ensuring that you feel prepared, supported, and comfortable with the process.
Throughout each session, you will be gently guided through a series of brief exercises while remaining present and in control at all times.
You are never required to share every detail of your experience, and we move at a pace that feels right for you.
You don’t have to stay stuck in patterns created by past experiences.
With the right support, it is possible to process what has been holding you back and begin to move forward with greater ease, clarity, and confidence.
